Why Kevin Durant Joining the Miami Heat Is a Real Possibility

The Miami Heat have big moves to make this offseason, and they look to make a splash in free agency. The team was one win away from the Eastern Conference Finals, and many wonder what their true potential could have been had Chris Bosh been healthy.

Kevin Durant will obviously be the biggest free agency of this summer's class, but it seems like it's set in stone that he will re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

KD has been linked to other teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Washington Wizards. However, could the Heat also be an option?

ESPN's Dan Le Batard says KD to South Beach isn't as far-fetched as it seems:

“All I’m telling you is priority number one is not get Dwyane locked up, Whiteside locked up — number one on the list is can you get the superstar (Durant) that is the big get in free agency while also taking care of your people around that?. The last two seasons what you’ve experienced is building towards that with makeshift parts, with bandages, with salary cap caulk, fix-a-flat…”

The Heat almost made the East Finals without Bosh and Hassan Whiteside. They even played Justise Winslow at center. With how weak the East is, it could give KD an easier shot at the Finals each year.

Of course, KD would have to get past LeBron James every year, but it's a lot easier than battling three rounds against the tough teams in the Western Conference. Despite him and Russell Westbrook being arguably the best duo in the league, the West is still a rough path to go through to make it to the Finals.

KD would also have a lot of pressure taken off him being in South Beach than in OKC, where he's been expected to deliver the team a championship since leading them to the Finals back in 2012.

I guess we'll see what happens in the offseason. I don't see it happening, but it's definitely possible.
