Social media exploded with laughter when the pictures of Tom Brady joining the Celtics contingent to pursue Kevin Durant surfaced.
Amid all the laughter, KD told the Boston Herald that he came mighty close to signing with the Celtics after their July 2 meeting in the Hamptons. Beyond the Celtics lore, Durant was impressed with Brady and was all but delivered to Danny Ainge before he went to sleep.
“I was ready to just say, ‘All right. Let’s go. I’m ready to go,’ seeing Tom Brady there. Just seeing someone so successful at his craft and just a great ambassador for the game of football and the city of Boston, it was just great to be in the presence of greatness."
Durant, admitting to being starstruck, had to mentally take his focus off of Brady.
“But at the same time, I knew I couldn’t let that distract me. But he was great. It was great to see him,” he said.
Durant made the comments Monday following the U.S. Olympic team’s first official practice. How close Durant came we won’t know, but reports had it between the Thunder and Warriors, so maybe Brady wasn’t that impressive.
