Could Ray Rice’s banishment from the NFL finally be coming to an end?
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, sources around the league believe Rice could get his shot at redemption at some point this season.
Rice hasn’t played since he was cut by the Ravens after video surfaced of the running back punching his then-fiance in a casino elevator on Sept. 2014.
Schefter made the comments on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown”;
“[Rice] has been pushing for this. He’s been staying in shape and I think he has the league’s backing.”
Schefter also indicated that Rice could get a second chance in the league;s front office as well, if that’s something he’d be interested in.
Rice has been doing well, as he’s been lecturing and guess speaking, while he and his wife Janay added to the family as well.
Here are five teams that could use him:
Cleveland Browns:Hue Jackson and company want to see how Duke Johnson and company fair first, but the Browns could be the perfect spot for Rice to develop his player/mentor role.
Indianapolis Colts: The Colts do have Frank Gore, who is 33 and rushed for 967 yards and six scores, but averaged just 3.7 yards per carry, the worst of his entire career. Gore and Rice could compliment each other.
Detroit Lions:Ameer Abdullah can be a future star in the NFL, and after only rushing for 597 yards, catching 25 passes for 183 yards. Rice would be perfect here.
New England Patriots: The Patriots don’t commit to the running game, so with Dion Lewis out for six weeks and with LeGarrette Blount leading the attack, Rice could fit well with this group.
New York Giants: With only Rashad Jennings, Shane Vereen and Orleans Darkwa on the depth chart, Rice could fit in and steal a few carries for the Giants as well.
