In the Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida fight in The Ultimate Fighter Nine was a matchup that you just couldn't miss, as it was easily one of the most competitive and exciting fights of the year.
Sanchez edged Guida as three judges tallied their score: two judges for Sanchez, 29-27 and 29-28; one judge for Guida, 29-28. It was just a fun matchup to watch, and as you can tell in the picture above, these guys were literally at war.
With Sanchez at 21-2, he earned the lightweight crown by just torturing Guida in a different amount of ways. It included a head kick, which ESPN said could leave a smaller guy unconscious.
Guida never gave up though.
"You can't hurt this guy," Guida said told ESPN in a story. "I come for days."
In Round Two between this war, it was all Guida as he left Sanchez on the mat for much of it. It started out when Guida just pinned Diego towards the ground. It was pretty much like that the whole time.
If much weaker people were in that situation, tap-out would have been called easily.
It was a great fight. Guida now falls to 25-10, and his three-game winning streak has come to a close.
"The weight cut was a little tough on me," Sanchez said. "The guy has a tremendous chin. There's a reason he's never been knocked out. He's an animal. That's what the UFC is all about, bringing battles like this to the Octagon."
And that is what it will always be about.
