The Indians have lost another All-Star from their team after recently trading Cliff Lee to the Indians. But it isn’t all bad as they are getting young players who may develop into big stars, like Jason Knapp.
ESPN also tells us that the Sox may also trade recently former Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Adam LaRoche to his former team, which would be the Atlanta Braves. If LaRoche gets traded there, the Red Sox would get first baseman Casey Kotchman, reports ESPN. LaRoche will also be joining forces with his old teammate a few months ago in Pittsburgh: Nate McLouth.
Martinez, 30, will most likely be sharing the spot at catcher with Jason Varitek and will reportedly be a designated hitter and most probably fill in at first base.
Says ESPN:
Cleveland, which began the weekend 12 games out of first in the AL Central, has slashed nearly $25 million in payroll by trading Lee, Martinez, third baseman Mark DeRosa, reliever Rafael Betancourt and first baseman Ryan Garko.
“When you don’t perform or have good results, things are going to happen like this,” Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore said. “It’s start-from-scratch now.”
It’s truly has been an exciting time for the Indians during the deadline of the MLB Trade Deadline. They have traded many of their stars but have gotten some good, young players who, like I said, will most likely develop into a star soon.
Martinez has been playing well, hitting with a .284 average along with 15 home runs and 67 RBIs.
