Sun Yue, you know, the guy who sat at the end of the Lakers bench?
The guy who didn't see much action in the regular season and none in the playoffs?
The guy with the supermodel girlfriend?!
Yeah, that guy! Well, he's been officially waived from the Los Angeles Lakers' roster.
Today, Mitch Kupchack, the Lakers general manager said, "With the talent level and depth of our roster, the situation simply doesn't provide an opportunity for Sun Yue to get the chance to play that he deserves."
Sun didn't play for the Lakers' Summer League team in Las Vegas, California, skipping that event so he could spend his time training with the Chinese National Team.
Last season, Sun scored a total of 6 points in 28 minutes of play in the ten games he appeared in for the Lakers. The last game I can remember him ever playing in a Lakers uniform is when Kobe Bryant scored 61 points in Madison Square Garden. He went in to give Kobe some rest in the final minute of that game.
The Lakers saved an estimated $1.5 million in not signing Sun.
Fairwell, Sun Yue, and the best of luck to you in the NBA market.
