Kim Clijsters knocked off third-ranked Venus Williams, 6-0, 0-6, and 6-4. Clijsters hasn't returned to Flushing Meadows since her victory back in 2005. Clijsters played well against Venus, which makes here earliest exit since 2004.
Clijsters will now be known to be one of the few tennis players to beat the Williams sisters. Clijsters is two wins away to become the first unseeded player to go to the US Open since Venus did back in 1997, reports ESPN.com.
Although Venus lost, Serena won. It was a tough match, but she was able to beat out 22-ranked Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia. Williams is seeded second at the US Open and she is certainly playing well.
"I just want to keep this level and just stay focused," Williams said.
Everything is looking good, let's hope this isn't the last of this pure sweetness.
