"It's unreal, man, it's unreal," Carter said. "We knew we could do it. We came into the tournament pretty confident."
ISU joins Belmont, Morehead State, and UNC-Asheville as the teams with automatic bids for the tourney. Jake Kelly helped end the game with two free throws as ISU ends the season with a 20-13 record, along with their first tournament appearance since 2001.
"It's about the best feeling in the world, I'll tell you that," coach Greg Lansing said. "The Indiana State program hasn't been where it was supposed to be and this group of guys took it back there."
ISU had their first winning season since 2001 last season with a 17-15 record, but it wasn't enough. They have improved strongly this year.
"That kind of fueled the fire, really inspired us," redshirt freshman Jake Odum said. "I've dreamed about this all my life and we're there, baby. We're going dancing, baby. I just pictured myself back in the gym, back in Terre Haute."
Good luck to ISU at the tournament. I will be cheering for them strongly.
