Mike Bibby has found a new home. The recently-traded point guard had to receive a buyout from his new team, the Washington Wizards, which shocked much of the league. Bibby agreed to leave over $6 million on the table for Washington. Now, he is signed by the Heat.
The Heat are pretty weak at the point guard position. LeBron James is technically the team's point guard, but besides him, the team is pretty weak there. Bibby adds a lot of veteran experience and could really help this team out.
Bibby says he is happy to join at team featuring superstars like LeBron, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. Bibby was on a team of what I would just probably call "the poor man's Miami Heat." And the Atlanta Hawks are that, as Bibby played with Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, and Al Horford. They're all big-name players, but they just can't do enough to get a title for the Hawks.
Bibby will be seeing a lot of passes to throw now with all these key players now.
"I'm a pretty smart player, I'll just get the ball to the guys where they need the ball at ... I'm not the type of player that needs shots to be effective," Bibby said.
Bibby is expected to replace young point guard, Mario Chalmers. Bibby will be starting in the line-up.
"We're very excited about an opportunity like this, especially late in the year," head coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We weren't necessarily expecting this about a month ago. We think he can really help."
Bibby was quite shocked to hear that he was traded to the Wizards for Kirk Hinrich. He also would lose a lot of minutes, as he would be backing up John Wall.
"I just felt that out of respect they could have told me that morning," Bibby said. "I saw everybody that morning and I wasn't told until it happened. It is not a big deal, it happens in this league and it is time to move on."
But now Bibby is in the right place. And at the right time. The Heat are playing solid.
We'll see how the rest of the season goes for Bibby with his new team.
