With hours to go until their regular season kicks off, the Cowboys are getting some last-minute business in by locking up their perennial Pro Bowl tight end.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dallas signed Jason Witten to a five-year, $37 million extension. The deal includes $19 million in guarantees and will keep him in Big D through 2017.
Witten, the team’s third-round pick in 2003, debuted for the ‘Boys in 2004 and has since become one of the best in the business at his position.
In seven seasons, he’s notched 617 receptions, 6,967 yards and 36 touchdowns. In that same time span, Witten has been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times and is a five-time All-Pro.
Still 29-years-old, Witten will continue prove he’s worthy of the big payday — and the accolades — as quarterback Tony Romo’s favorite target.
