Freed Prisoner Tricked Into That Mets Won World Series

 

Freed prisoner, Ilan Grapel, had a tough five months in an Egyptian jail, but was finally freed this week. The 27-year-old US-Isreali citizen was freed in a prisoner swap between Egypt and Isreal.

He was arrested on June 12 after he was attending a demonstration in Cairo. He was accused of spying for Isreal.

But, however, Grapel was tricked that the New York Mets won the World Series by Rep. Gary Ackerman, says the New York Post:

In a news conference in Tel Aviv following his release, the newspaper reports, Grapel said: "There's so many people to thank, and after being cut off for the past five months ..."

At that point, the Post reports, Ackerman chimed in: "We told him the Mets won the World Series."

What a great way to welcome him back, but great joke played.
