BYU forward, Brandon Davies, was suspended towards the end of last year after he broke the university's honor code. However, Davies returned and he is happy to be back with the team as the Cougars begin their season this Friday against Utah State.
"I was definitely treated more than fair," he said. "Just to be able to make it back here and be able to be a part of this team again is a blessing to me."
Davies was suspended after the school found out he had premarital sex, violating the honor code. It was a tough time for Davies, as he had to watch on the sideline seeing teammate Jimmer Fredette doing all he can to lead No. 3 ranked Cougars into the National Championship.
Davies was brought back to the team in August, and with Fredette now in the NBA, Davies is the man. BYU is unranked but he hopes to help his team reach the height they did last year. Davies said it hurt him not helping his teammates in their run to the Final Four, as they eventually lost in the Sweet 16.
"Not just me, but everyone around me," hesaid. "It's definitely something I'll never forget about and something I never want to do again, so I just use that to drive me in all that I do today."
Davies thinks he changed after the suspsension, and it is for the better, but he'll let others decide.
"I can't really tell someone that I've changed; it's up to me to show that. Hopefully I'm in the right direction and doing that the best I can."
Davies played well with eleven points and six rebounds averaged last season. He looks or a big year with BYU for the 2011-12 season.
"I am just glad to be here, back with my teammates and back here where I am supported and loved by so many," he said. "Just to be back here and be able to be part of this team again is a blessing to me."
