This past week for Penn State has just been hell. With all the Jeff Sandusky problems, head coach Joe Paterno announced today that he will retire after the season.
Paterno will be on the Nittany Lions' sideline for the last time in the team's final home game this season against Nebraska.
However, don't think Paterno is retiring just because of Sandusky. He is 84 years old and there were already rumors of him retiring even before the allegations. It's sad to see a great coach and influence leave.
He was with Penn State for 61 years, along with 409 career victories, making him the most winningest coach in FBS history. He will also break the record for most college games coached with 549 coming up soon. He also has the most bowl appearances with 37 and most bowl wins with 24, along with leading Penn State to two national championships.
"I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief," Paterno said.
It's going to be sad seeing him go. He was truly a great coach.
His legacy will stand.
