Oklahoma State was able to survive the Kansas State Wildcats, finishing with a 52-45 shootout victory to improve to 9-0.
Brandon Weeden threw for a school-record 502 yards and four touchdowns. Has final touchdown helped the Cowboys get the victory, with a 23-yard pass to Joseph Randle with 2:16 remaining to get the win.
As much as a defensive battle it was with Alabama and LSU that created excitement, this game created just as much with offensive powerhouses going at it.
"I'm sure that one was pretty fun as well," Weeden said. "To come out on top in this one feels really, really good."
Kansas State had three chances to score with twelve seconds left, as they were on the Cowboys' five-yard line. But OSU's defense stood up when it really counted. Thus, the Wildcats fall to 7-2.
OSU's chances of a national championship are still there, especially with the help of the Alabama loss. The Cowboys celebrated onto the field after quarterback Collin Klein missed on receiver Tramaine Thompson as time expired.
"You know the season's on the line, so we're definitely not going to back down," defensive end Jamie Blatnick said. "There's no way that we're going to just break and just let the game go out of our hands.
"We've got a great team and we fight hard and I'm proud of them."
Besides the game-winning touchdown catch, running back Joseph Randle played well with 73 rushing yards and two extra touchdowns on the ground.
Star receiver, Justin Blackmon, was a huge factor in the game; catching 13 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver, Tracy Moore, also helped out with nine catches for 146 yards and a score.
For KSU, Collin Klein led the team with 231 passing yards with a touchdown and a pick. Klein also was a factor in the run game, with 144 rushing yards and three touchdowns there, too. Wide receiver, Tyler Lockett, had some big runs on the ground, with 84 yards off three carries, including a big 57-yard burst. He also had a touchdown from a pass by Klein. Tremaine Thompson led the team with six catches for 71 yards.
KSU will face Texas A&M next while OSU faces Texas Tech. What a game it was. I hope college football has in store for some more soon!
