After struggling with his knees for the past few seasons, Portland Trail Blazers star shooting guard Brandon Roy announced his medical retirement today after the doctors told him he can't play now.
Truly, this saddens me. Roy was a monster coming out of college and won Rookie of the Year in 2006. He was truly something special. The young stud only lasted five seasons, but made the most of it, as he made it to three All-Star games.
It's just sad to see such a great career end so short due to injury. However, his legacy will live on and I look forward to the next chapter of his life. He's had some amazing moments, though. For one, you can look at his game-winner versus Houston a few years ago, or this flashy dunk.
However, what I will most remember Roy for was his thrilling moment last year in Game Four in Round One of the NBA Playoffs, where he led the Blazers to victory over the Dallas Mavericks:
Brandon, it's truly a tragedy to see you go.
Gonna miss you bud.
