As pitiful as the UMBC men's basketball team is in 2011-2012, the Towson program might just be even more wretched.

The Retrievers (0-7) are set to take on the Tigers (0-8) in Towson, Maryland on Saturday, in a game that is sure to produce a winner, finally.

UMBC will roll to a convincing victory in front of a select group of die-hard Tigers fans, not including President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama or Bill Murray, looking for a reason to drink a little more than they should Saturday night.

Towson has struggled to score under first-year head coach Pat Skerry, a former assistant at Pittsburgh.

The Tigers are ranked 343rd in the country (out of 345 Division I teams) in points per game this season, averaging a pathetic 51.0 points per game.

They are shooting just 37.1 percent from the field as a team, which is disappointing enough to rank them 333rd in the nation in that category.

Towson has been a turnover machine early this season as well, while ranking second-to-last in the country in assists per game (7.5).

Unfortunately for impatient, tuned out Tigers fans, the team has not even been competitive this season, as their alarming statistics show.

The narrowest margin of defeat for Towson in their first eight games has been 12 points, on two occasions against UNC Greensboro and conference rival George Mason.

Since the start of the 2010-2011 season under coach Pat Kennedy, the men's basketball program at Towson has gone a head-shaking 4-34.

The team finished 0-18 in the CAA last season, and is already off to an 0-1 start this year.

The Tigers have lost 27-straight basketball games overall and their last two wins came against La Salle and UMBC.

Oddly enough, Towson is coming off a 38-point loss to La Salle this season and heading into a home matchup with UMBC.

Here's the deal, the men's basketball program at Towson is in serious danger of becoming noticed nationally for all the wrong reasons.

And the new Tiger Arena currently being constructed on campus, which is set to open in 2013, will become a permanent circus tent for the winless Tigers.
