The 9-year NFL veteran defensive tackle was released by the Bears on Sunday afternoon in a move intended to clear cap space.
Late in July 2011, da Bears chose to re-sign Adams to a two-year deal that was worth $4.5 million. At that time, he had been coming off of a 2010 campaign in which he started all 16 games (for only the second time in his career), recorded two sacks, and forced two fumbles. All signs pointed to 2011 being a similarly strong year, but that never quite materialized.
He only managed to play in 11 games this year because of a nagging foot injury, and he only started in 4 of those because Matt Toeaina was injured for those. He ended up compiling 16 total tackles on the season, with no sacks or forced turnovers.
Adams has only been on two different teams throughout his lengthy career; with his first 4 years as a 49er and his last 5 in Chicago.
Because of his veteran status, he is able to sign with a new team before free agency begins on March 13th, so we could see him on the move rather quickly. Adams will turn 32 in June.
