When the Cleveland Cavaliers took Kyrie Irving as the first overall choice of the 2011 draft, many thought that the franchise made a big mistake as they should have taken a other prospect such as Derrick Williams etc.

This came because Kyrie, although was a great player in college, played only eleven games and had a toe injury that kept him sidelines for some time. Many questioned the selection due to these reasons. And they were all wrong.

Irving came fit  in the league and in his preseason debut, showed to his doubters who truly is. With his work ethic, he continued to add to his game and developed a great relationship with his coach, Byron Scott.

Scott was more than pleased that he’s got a coachable, hard working and talented point guard in his roster that’s willing to improve and learn. This is yet another great point guard like Kidd, Paul with which he’s worked with.

Byron put the rookie in the starting line up much earlier than many predicted, gave him a nice freedom and Kyrie has used it well. He didn’t waste any time at all. He’s playing up truly to his status and gets better consistently.

There’re few reasons for that. Irving’s an extremely skilled player, who’s got a complete game and can do it all quite good. He’s shown a high basketball IQ, solid leadership abilities and controls the flow nicely.

Unlike most, his game doesn’t depend on athleticism or any other physical advantage, which helps him a lot. Speaking of physical gifts, he’s not bad in that aspect of basketball, since he’s got solid size, quickness and explosiveness.

So far, Kyrie’s proved himself to be a very productive and an efficient player overall who’s really consistent. Here’re some stats to show you why.

Stats: 18.2 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 turn overs, 49.7% field goal, 41.4% three point and 83.8% free throw percentage, 11-15  W/L record.

This is an impressive stat line for a first year pro. He leads all the rookies in several categories, such as points, player efficiency and so on. What’s more important, is that no other rookies makes the impact on his team that Kyrie does.

The young rookie is leading the Cavaliers to a good record after James left the team. They have solid chances at making the playoffs, and if they do, it’ll be because of his excellence.

Irving’s showing the potential, talent and abilities of being the franchise player that will lead Cleveland to a playoff success once more, a future All-Star if not more than that.

In my mind, there’s no doubt about. He will be a future superstar.
