Manny Ramirez is back in the MLB and reported to camp today with his new team: the Oakland Athletics. The 39-year-old will wear No. 1 for the squad.
"Everything starts with the number one. To me, it's like a new beginning," Ramirez said. "God has given me a second chance and I'm not going to waste it. My arrival in Oakland is not a coincidence, it's a God-incidence."
Ramirez will still have to serve a 50-game suspension after his performance-enhancing drug problems he encountered.
"I made some mistakes and I want to show my children I can correct them," Ramirez said. "Every Thursday morning my wife and I went to church, kneeled down and prayed. I am blessed to have this opportunity again."
Ramirez is a 19-year pro who has 555 home runs. He last played for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011, where he really didn't do anything. He then announced his retirement in April.
"I'm a new man who found true happiness in God's word. Right now, I have a peace I never experienced in my life," said Ramirez.
I wish the best to Manny and I look forward to see what he does this year, even though we may not see him play until sometime in the summer.
