Kansas State went into the tournament strong, knocking off Southern Miss in a 70-64 victory. They will take on the Syracuse Orange next, but will be without a key player in Jamar Samuels, who was second among the team's scoring-leaders.

Thomas Gipson, a freshman, will take place for Samuels.

The decision of making him ineligible came minutes before the game tipped off. The issue has risen in the past day.

"We are working diligently to resolve this as quickly as possible," Athletics Director, John Currie said.

He has not stated if it's because of grades or benefits.

Samuels, a senior, was averaging ten points and seven rebounds per game for the season and had eight boards in the Southern Miss victory.

This is a big loss for the team, but they will join the Orange with a key player out as Fab Melo was declared ineligible for the tournament.

Best of luck to both teams, and players.

UPDATE: Kansas State ended up losing the game, 75-59. Gipson would finish with eight points in place for Samuels.
