Kyle O'Quinn helped destroy many brackets.
Even mine.
Even his own.
The senior center put up a huge performance, with 26 points and 14 rebounds, to knock off No. 2-seeded Missouri in one of the biggest upsets in this year's NCAA Tournament as Norfolk State won, 86-84.
Many brackets had Missouri heading into the next round, but the MEAC champions are up next as they face the Florida Gators next.
Pendarvis Williams and Chris McEachin added 20 points in the Spartans' first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Norfolk State becomes the first No. 15-seeded team to knock off a No. 2-seed since 2001 when Hampton did it, who are also in the MEAC.
"You always go into the game with a sense of confidence," O'Quinn said, "but I never thought it was an upset-alert until that buzzer went off.
"At the end of the game," he said, "that's when I thought it would happen."
The game wasn't over at the end, with the Spartans barely clinging onto a two-point lead. O'Quinn would miss two straight free throws with 3.8 seconds left. This set up a chance for the Tigers to get one last chance at victory. They handed it to Phil Pressey, who missed a three-pointer at the end.
"We just shocked everybody," forward Brandon Wheeless said.
Michael Dixon led Mizzou with 22 points. Pressey and Marcus Denmon added 20.
"I'm very disappointed, as everyone in that locker room was," Tigers' head coach Frank Haith said. "I hurt for those seniors because they put so much into this. They had high expectations."
The Tigers have been through this before, as they were upset in the first round twice before. First was against the 14-seed Northern Iowa in 1990 and then the No. 13 Xavier in 1987.
What an upset.
This is truly March Madness at it's finest.
