Los Angeles Dodgers star Matt Kemp never expected that Magic Johnson would be the team's new owner until his group bought the team yesterday. Kemp recalls that he had a number of notifications on his phone of the big news.
Johnson, who is a Hall-of-Famer in the NBA after a successful career with the Lakers, bought the team for $2.15 billion from Frank McCourt. His group agreed to purchase the team, the ballpark, and a 50-percent stake in parking lots surrounding the ballpark.
"I think it's tight, man, for Magic to be one of our owners," said Kemp. "He knows what the Dodgers mean to L.A. Magic is very important to L.A., and the fans love him. This is a pretty good day for the Dodgers."
Yes it is.
