With the Montreal Canadiens struggling as they are dead last in the Eastern Conference with a 29-34-14 record, they have fired general manager Pierre Gauthier. They said such play will not be tolerated with them.

"We need to remember that our fans want us to win, period," owner Geoff Molson said. "Our organizational culture is to support and adopt this passion for victory. Nothing else matters."

Gauthier was part of the organization since 2003.

"Everyone in this organization, including our players, expected better," said Molson.
