Jeff Saturday joined Peyton Manning and many other former Colts to have left the rebuilding franchise. A couple of days ago, the Pro Bowl center called Manning about his decision to sign with the Green Bay Packers.
Saturday told Manning that heading to Green Bay would have been a better fit for him than joining him in Denver with the Broncos.
"I told him I don't think the Broncos wanted me as much as he did. They've got things going on that they're happy with and are moving forward with and I didn't think it was an exact fit. I always felt like in Green Bay I was their very first choice."
The 36-year-old replaces Scott Wells as the starting center, as he is now in St. Louis. Saturday is among the many great veterans that made the Colts franchise a legendary squad for the past decade.
"We wish Jeff Sat the best,I wanted him to work for team full time but he wanted to go at it one more year..he's as good of a man as it gets," Indianapolis owner, Jim Irsay, wrote on his Twitter account.
Saturday looks like he's going to fit well with the Packers, who went 15-1 last season but fell to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship. He will now be snapping balls to Aaron Rodgers next season.
"My body feels great and I'm really excited about joining (the Packers)," Saturday told the newspaper. "It's a great group of guys. I'm really happy. I saw those two guys beside me (guards T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton) and they're a pair of studs. And the way the tackles have played speaks for themselves.
"I think I'm going to have a ton of fun with those guys."
Saturday signed a two-year contract worth $7.75 million. He is scheduled to make $4 million next year.
