Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson had a lot of success as an Oklahoma Sooner when he was in college. His amazing performance allowed him to become a top-ten draft pick in 2007. Now Peterson is giving back to his alma-mater.
According to College Football Talk, Peterson has donated $1 million to the school along with establishing his own football scholarship program.
“This was something that I had been thinking about doing for a long time,” Peterson said in a release. “I always hoped to be in a position to be able to donate back to the University of Oklahoma and make it an even better place, do whatever I could to help the university that did so much for me.
“There just came a time when I got established and comfortable enough to make it happen. It was a no-brainer to do it and I am thankful that I’m in a position to give back to OU and to show my appreciation.”
Many are happy with what Peterson has done.
“Adrian is certainly special,” coach Bob Stoops said. “He possessed great natural ability, but never took that ability or his teammates for granted. It was common for him to place the interests of others above his own. I’m excited that his name will appear in Headington Hall to remind others of his example of selfless dedication.”
