Well, this is rather disturbing.
As reported by Deadspin, Denver Nuggets center Chris "Birdman" Andersen has been investigated for months now due to possible child pornography charges.
From the report:
Denver's 9News is reporting that Nuggets center Chris "Birdman" Andersen's home is the target of an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children division of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department.
Cops seized property from Birdman's house today, according to 9News. The case apparently originates from a California law enforcement agency. KMGH is reporting the investigation involves child pornography.
Andersen attended practice this morning and is expected to be at tonight's Lakers-Nuggets Game 6. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
It seems like Andersen playing tonight is now unlikely now. Deadspin later updated the article, announcing that the Birdman has now been excused from the team.
Update (5:40 p.m.): The Denver Post reports Andersen has been "excused indefinitely" from the team while the investigation continues against him. It's not likely to affect the Nuggets' season—he hasn't seen the court in weeks—but it may suggest the gravity of the investigation and/or how much the Nuggets organization want to distance themselves from it.
This is just completely disgusting. I mean, judging from what Andersen has done in his past, it seems like something you'd expect from him, right? Still, it's all just wrong.
"The Denver Nuggets are aware of today's media reports involving forward/center Chris Andersen. It involves a legal investigation and we are awaiting further details," team officials wrote in an unsigned statement. "Per team policy, the Nuggets will not comment on any ongoing legal circumstance involving any player or employee."
