Greg Oden had so much potential to succeed, but his body just couldn't hold up. The recently released Portland Trail Blazers center has been hurt for most of his career due to knee issues.
Oden doesn't plan on retiring though; he's eying a return to action in the 2013-2014 season.
Oden has one team in mind, though: the Miami Heat. Miami does need a legitimate center to put next to Chris Bosh down low, but can Oden ever hold up for a whole season?
Oden says he plans on sitting out next season due to a third microfracture surgery. His agent, Mike Conley Sr., sees Oden being able to play in December or January.
Via the Miami Herald:
But his agent, Mike Conley Sr., told us Oden is positioned be ready to play in December or January “as far as being effective and in shape” and will explore options in the coming months, with the possibility of joining a team next season. But nobody obviously can know for sure when he will be ready.
The Heat hasn’t called but “Greg has talked about Miami,” Conley said. “He has interest. He’s not retiring.”
Oden looks like a fit with the Heat, but teams, including Miami, might be scared off with his injury history. Oden might be a comeback player that proves his critics wrong, or will prove his doubters wrong by officially cementing his "bust" label.
We'll see how that goes once he makes his official return.
