San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith recently came off a bounce-back season last year, helping the Niners to a 13-3 record.
Smith started to play like the No. 1 pick that he is when he was drafted first overall by San Fran in 2005.
Although his stats aren't amazing, Smith could care less. For him, it's all just about winning.
Smith told the media the other day that stats don't matter to him if you aren't winning. Along the way, he dissed Cam Newton in his comment.
"I could absolutely care less on yards per game. I think that is a totally overblown stat because if you're losing games in the second half, guess what, you're like the Carolina Panthers and you're going no-huddle the entire second half. Yeah, Cam Newton threw for a lot of 300-yard games. That's great. You're not winning, though."
I get what Smith was trying to say, but he worded that really wrong. With that, Panthers linebacker Jon Beason defended Newton on Twitter, dissing Smith:
Damn, you gonna take that Alex?
