Current Pacers GM Larry Bird was rumored to retire from his front office position in Indiana, but it seems he's ready to go for another year. Bird won't be the Pacers' executive forever, though. That brings Foster back into play.
Ever since his retirement, he's stayed around the team. Foster has even helped develop and teach center Roy Hibbert some lessons after he retired, which shows what a true team player he is.
Many have thought after he retired that he would join Bird in the front office. That hasn't happened yet, but it seems like Foster wants to still be around basketball in this kind of a role.
Foster has always been seen right next to Bird's side the past few years at draft workouts and it still continued to today when he sat next to Bird in the bleachers watching prospects work out.
I remember a few years back when someone asked about Foster about his role with Pacers, saying that "he wouldn't be surprised if he became a member of the front office" and even chuckled saying "he's out to take his job."
Even though his playing days are over, don't expect the Pacers fan favorite to leave any time soon. Expect to see Foster right at Bird's side until he retires his executive position from the Pacers.
We might be calling Foster an NBA scout, director of player personnel, or even the general manager of Indiana real soon.
Don't be surprised at all once Bird steps down from his executive spot in a year or two and Foster becomes the main candidate to be the replacement.
