After injuries and academic issues causing him to sit out his freshman season, USC quarterback Jesse Scroggins will now transfer, according to the Los Angeles Times.
With Scroggins leaving, the Trojans are left with Matt Barkley, Matt Wittek, and Cody Kessler.
“We’re just doing what’s in the best interest of my son,” Scroggins’ father, Jesse Sr., said in a phone interview with newspaper. “He wanted more control of the situation and this seemed like an opportune time.”
The 20-year-old starred at Lakewood High School and then went on to USC. According to the newspaper, Scroggins will head to a junior college and play, along with getting an Associate of Arts degree. Then, he will look to transfer to a four-year college with two years remaining of his eligibility.
“He’ll be a free agent,” his father said.
The 6-2, 210-pounder would have been a third-year sophomore had he stayed with the college. Best of luck to Scroggins with the rest of his football career.
