New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is none to pleased about the viral video that shows defensive end Jason Pierre Paul dumping defensive back Prince Amukamara in a cold tub during a prank Saturday morning, according to ESPN.
The video shows Pierre-Paul carrying Amukamara thru an area of the practice facility and eventually dumping him head first into a cold tub.
Coach Coughlin seemed a bit mortified after finding about the video.
“I’m learning about that today,” Coughlin said in a conference call with reporters Sunday afternoon. “I really didn’t have any information about that until maybe an hour before this conference call. I am going to look into it and talk to the parties involved.
“There may have … as I’m understanding it, there were some parts of it that were inappropriate. In no way is anything that occurs within this family or within our group should that be a part of any social media aspect. So I am going to address that strongly because I spent a little time on that this preseason. I will look into that further.”
Giants punter Steve Weatherford apologized for posting the video.
“I want to apologize to the fans… The video I posted was distasteful,” Weatherford tweeted. “Our team is a family, and we love each other. I am sorry to the fans.”
The video’s distaste comes in the form of crude language and derogatory words used by several players. Take out the language and the video is insight in to everyday NFL pranks.
It would seem that Amukamara is a guy who likes to walk to the beat of his own drum, and that can sometimes be a turnoff to his Giants teammates. I believe the video and actions in the video will be handled by Coughlin and most likely quietly go away as the regular season approaches.
If all else fails, they always have the Jets to take back page attention away from the matter.
