The St. Louis Rams are quietly reloading and repositioning themselves to become a factor again in the NFC west.

NFL.com is reporting that the Rams and linebacker James Laurinaitis have agreed to a new five-year extension worth $41.5 million.

The deal would keep the 2009 second-round pick under contract until the 2017 season. $23 million of the deal is guaranteed.

Laurinaitis has started all 48 career games since being drafted out of Ohio State, and has been a solid tackling machine over that span.

The Rams now have their two best defensive players locked up for the future with the extension of Chris Long earlier this summer.
