Virginia Tech senior wide receiver D.J. Coles will undergo an MRI on his knee and will miss the rest of the season, the school announced on Thursday.

Coles had off-season PCL surgery on his right knee, but returned for Monday’s opener against Georgia Tech.

He then re-injured his knee during the first quarter, but a school spokesperson said the injury was unrelated to his PCL.

Coles will be eligible to apply for a medical hardship waiver for an extra year of eligibility, because he has not played in more than 30 percent of this year’s season.

He has 39 receptions for 507 yards and three touchdowns for his career. Virginia Tech hosts Austin Peay this weekend at Lane Stadium.
