Chip Kelly January 2013

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly is close to becoming the Cleveland Browns new head coach. This is big news for Browns fans, as new owner Jimmy Haslam promised changing the culture around there. He surely did with this move.

Kelly will bring a new style of offense the NFL hasn't seen yet. It will include a playbook of solely option reads and a no-huddle style. Oregon's offense was unstoppable and Kelly will hope to do the same to Cleveland.

This is bad news for Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden, though. Weeden is likely out of there or will be riding the bench, as he doesn't fit Kelly's offense. Kelly will want to have a mobile quarterback that can make good reads and throw the ball down the field (and no, not Tim Tebow). Speed is the key to this offense and Weeden surely does not have that.

Some ideas that will likely be thrown at for the new quarterback in Cleveland are Michael Vick, Geno Smith, Tebow, Thaddeus Lewis or Tajh Boyd (if he declares). It will certainly be interesting to watch what happens in free agency and the draft to see how the Browns fill this position.

Kelly has been making around $3.5 million at Oregon and the Browns were going to offer something he couldn't refuse. Cleveland has a general manager opening and it is believed that if Kelly ends up there, Michael Lombardi will be the new favorite for the job. Lombardi and Kelly are close friends and go way back.

Just imagine Trent Richardson getting options left and right. If you're a fantasy football player, I would invest into Richardson next season along with whoever the quarterback will be. It looks like it will be an exciting time to be a Browns fan with Kelly coming to town.
