The franchise that will be known as the New Orleans Pelicans next year. The franchise started playing in the 1988-89 NBA season as the Charlotte Hornets, in which they played 14 seasons in Charlotte, North Carolina before moving to New Orleans in 2001 and changing their name to the Hornets.
The name “Hornets” will be available next year, and it’s been rumored that the Charlotte Bobcats might be in play to bring the franchise their old nickname back.
