Lou Williams January 2013

Remember when the Atlanta Hawks were surprising the NBA world winning game after game? That seems like ages ago.The Hawks aren’t looking too good these days. Josh Smith was kicked out of practice and suspended one game last week and now guard Lou Williams is out for the season with a ligament tear in his right knee.

Via Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Lou Williams was lost for the season with a torn ligament in his right knee. The Hawks guard suffered the injury against the Nets Friday and the diagnosis was made following an MRI exam Saturday afternoon.

Williams, the Hawks’ third leading scorer, will require surgery to repair the damaged knee.

The 26-year-old signed with the Hawks as a free agent this past summer after spending the first seven years of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Atlanta native led the Sixers in scoring last season with 14.9 points per game despite coming off the bench. He was the first bench player to do that since Dell Curry.

Williams averaged 14.1 points, 3.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench in 39 games this season.
