Believe it or not, UTEP is setting themselves up for Conference-USA dominance. Former USC head coach
Tim Floyd has the Miners in the right path for the future. In the next couple of years, Conference-USA will be depleted of a lot of its talent.
Memphis, East Carolina, UCF, Houston, and SMU will all be departing, leaving UTEP as a viable conference favorite. So far this season, they are 11-8 (4-2) which is a relative improvement from their 15-17 (7-9) record last year.
Coach Floyd has put together one of the best mid-major recruiting classes for 2013. The Miners will bring in five-star recruit
Isaac Hamilton who is the fourth-best shooting guard in the nation, according to Rivals.com.
Bolstering the 2013 class, Floyd has also gotten
Vince Hunter, a four-star recruit, to commit as well. UTEP was previously an afterthought to high-schoolers of this caliber. However, El Paso is suddenly a logical destination for recruits to play.
UTEP could experience the same type of success that Memphis had during
John Calipari's stint. On paper, there is no reason for them not to control the Conference-USA in the next couple of years.
