Football fans of major BCS conference football powers sometimes cringe when their teams take-on most FCS football teams.
There are some FCS football powers, like the North Dakota State Bison (who recently won their second consecutive national title), but with results like Oregon's 63-14 victory over Tennessee Tech for example, some conferences are looking in a different direction.
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez shared some information regarding a new agreement between the Big Ten football conference members on his monthly radio show Tuesday night, Jeff Potrykus of the Journal-Sentinel reports.
Big Ten officials recently agreed to stop scheduling nonconference games against FCS programs, according to Alvarez.
“The nonconference schedule in our league is ridiculous,” Alvarez said on WIBA-AM. “It’s not very appealing...So we’ve made an agreement that our future games will all be Division I schools. It will not be FCS schools.”
With the new post-season format on the horizon and the additions of Rutgers and Maryland, scheduling could become a factor to determine the top four seeds within the playoff system.
There is not a set date for this agreement so stay tuned as this story develops.
