Jared Sullinger January 2013

The Boston Celtics just can’t catch a break.

Last week it was announced that point guard Rajon Rondo was going to be out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. Now rookie forward Jared Sullinger is also going to be out for the remainder of the year because of a back injury that requires surgery, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

In 45 games with the Celtics this season, Sullinger was averaging six points and six rebounds per game in 19.8 minutes.

After playing two seasons in the NCAA with Ohio State and being one of the best players in the country, Sullinger got drafted No. 21 overall by the Celtics in the 2012 NBA draft. The reason why he fell out of the lottery was because of concerns about the durability of his back.

Boston general manager Danny Ainge took a risk with drafting Sullinger, and now he knows exactly why so many teams passed on him.
