NBA commissioner David Stern proved once again that the league is really inconsistent when it comes to punishing players for their actions, as Oklahoma City Thunder big man Serge Ibaka was fined $25,000 for his hit to the groin on Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin on Sunday, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.
Griffin and Ibaka were fighting for position under the basket with less than two minutes left in the Thunder's 108-104 victory when Ibaka used his right arm to hit Griffin in the groin area. He said after the game that it wasn’t intentional. Ibaka’s teammate Kendrick Perkins called Griffin a "flopper" after the game.
Ibaka, 23, surprisingly didn’t get ejected and it’s even more shocking that he wasn’t suspended. The Thunder will face the 30-30 Los Angeles Lakers tonight.
