Despite having the best season in franchise history (56-26), the
Los Angeles Clippers announced today that they won’t be giving coach
Vinny Del Negro another contract.
According to a report from
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Del Negro, who spent three seasons as the coach of the Clippers, failed to lead his team to the second round after reaching it in the 2011-2012 season.
“Lob City” entered the season with hopes of getting far in the
postseason, perhaps even going to the
NBA Finals representing the Western Conference, but their dreams came crashing down when the
Memphis Grizzlies were able to win four straight games against them, eliminating them in six games.
Del Negro, 46, spend two years coaching the
Chicago Bulls (2008-2010) before joining the Clippers for the 2010-2011 season until his three-year contract ended.
Clippers owner
Donald Sterling, who supports Del Negro, seems to realize that his team needs a better coach in order to retain
Chris Paul,
who will be a free agent this July, and give the team a better chance of going deep in the playoffs.
Who would be a good fit to coach the Clippers now?
