Take winning out of the equation, and LeBron James is one of the best basketball players to ever walk this planet.
The NBA has never seen such a player as big, strong, fast and smart as LeBron. He can drop 50 points or dish out 15 dimes on any given night. He is the most versatile offensive weapon is any sport right now.
But winning is a big part of a player’s legacy, and LeBron’s legacy is on the line tonight in Game 4.
If LeBron wants to be in the conversation for “greatest player of all time”, he cannot afford a loss tonight. As good as the Miami Heat can be at times, there is practically no chance that they could overcome a 3-1 deficit to quality team like the San Antonio Spurs.
All-time greats can’t lose three NBA Finals in their career.
Championships are what separate the best of the best from the rest of the group. Julius Erving had all the talent in the world, and has a shelf full of individual awards, but his name is never brought up in the “greatest player of all time” discussion because he only has one ring.
If LeBron wants to be in that conversation, he needs to lead the Heat to a victory tonight. If Miami loses, their season and LeBron’s chance at reaching Michael Jordan’s status will be over.
