Tiger Woods is having a great season so far by most standards.
He has the most wins on tour, but he's not satisfied with these tournaments, championships and invitationals. In the end, it's all about the majors. Woods currently sits at second place in all-time major victories with 14, being four behind the great Jack Nicklaus. Woods has not won the last 19 majors played on the PGA tour, which accounts for the longest drought of his career.
In all fairness to Woods, he did not participate in four of those majors because of injuries. However, that is all the more reason to worry. Woods is now 37 years old and he's not the dominant force he once was. He hasn't won a major since the 2008 US Open when he defeated Rocco Mediate in the memorable three-hole playoff.
Tiger Woods has failed to win his last 15 attempts at a major (again, four others he was injured). Not only has Woods not won a major since 2008, he has only finished in second place one time.
Maybe it all started with YE. Yang.
Woods is known for NEVER giving up a lead. In 2009 at the PGA Championship, Woods led after three days. He blew the lead on the final day. It was the only time in Woods' career he has blown a lead at a major after 54 holes.
It doesn't look like he's recovered.
If Woods fails to win this US Open, which begins Thursday, it will officially be 20 consecutive majors without a win. Add that to his aging body, questionable caddy and what do you get?
Jack Nicklaus safe at 18.
