As someone who has had family members and friends die of cancer and who has a younger cousin battling the disease, I have experienced what it can do to families and to its victims.
Research has come up with some experimental cures, for instance using modified HIV virus to attack cancer cells. But it is still a long ways off from being widely used or even being approved. So in the meantime, whatever small boost to the morale that these kids or adults needs, get it to them. Get it to them now.
In some cases it could be dogs, friends, family, video games, stuffed animals, etc., but in the case of Grant Reed, it was the Michigan Wolverines.
This was not out of admiration, but out of hate. As a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan, he was born to hate Michigan. The only thing that was standing in his way to happy, normal life was a brain tumor that was found two years ago.
To help give himself motivation, he could only think of one thing: name his cancer Michigan. And you know what? It worked. He underwent his last chemotherapy session on Friday, and will go on to hate Michigan for the rest of his life.
