Stafford still had two years remaining on his current contract, so now he’ll be staying in Detroit through at least the 2017 season.
It seems like the Lions are throwing a lot of money at a guy who seems to always be banged up and injured. However, mega-deals for quarterbacks get bigger and bigger each offseason, so the Lions could actually be saving some money by re-signing Stafford while he still has two years left on his current contract.
Stafford threw for nearly 5,000 yards last season, but the Lions finished the season with a disappointing 4-12 record.
