Former New York Knicks great Dean “The Dream” Meminger was found dead last night due to a possible drug overdose.

The New York Post is reporting that the 65-year-old was found dead in a Harlem hotel room.

Meminger is a former playground legend who rose to fame with the Knicks, and helped lead them to the 1973 NBA Finals.

He was discovered fully clothed around noon by staff at the Hamilton Heights Casablanca Hotel after he didn’t check out on time.

“After several knocks, we opened,” said the manager of the W. 145th St. lodging. “It was afternoon, and he hadn’t come down.”

They found the former point guard lying on top of a red-and-white paisley bedspread, said the manager, who declined to give her name. Shocked staff found traces of blood on the man they called “friendly,” who the manager said stayed there at least once a month.

“He never gave us any problems,” she said. “He always seemed sober. It’s a sad way to go.”
