Next season, Pau Gasol will make $19.3 million in the final year of his deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Gasol has endured trade rumors, benchings and injuries over the past few seasons, but told the Los Angeles Times that he wants to stay as a member of the purple-and-gold beyond next season.
“I would love to play for the franchise that I love playing for, that I’m proud to be a part of,” he said. “It would be great to continue to play for the Lakers.”
Gasol averaged about 14 points and nine rebounds per game last season. The 33-year-old joined the Lakers in 2007, being one of the main focal points in their three NBA Finals appearances and two championship runs.
Gasol enters his 13th NBA season with 18 points and nine rebounds per game for his career.
