Nnamdi Asomugha has a beautiful actress for a wife, some money in the bank account and several philanthropic ventures going on off the field.
Asomugha might want to make arrangements to be doing something else this NFL season.
Even with the loss of cornerback Chris Culliver for the season, there still was no guarantee that Asomugha would make the 49ers final roster.
49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told the Associated Press that “the jury is still out on Nnamdi” and that he may not make the team.
“We didn’t really know what we were getting when we got Nnamdi. He’s had some good days out here and some days where you weren’t sure if he was going to still have it,” Fangio said. “I think we’re kind of in between with him right now. Hopefully he’ll be able to still have some gas left in his tank to go out there and play like he did prior to going to Philadelphia. So, I think the jury is still out there.”
The fact that Fangio still can’t tell if Asomugha has anything left in the tank, tells you all you need to know about Nnamdi at this point in his career.
Asomugha is 32 years old, now entering his 11th NFL season. After eight great seasons with the Oakland Raiders, including an eight-interception year in 2006, Asomugha signed a lucrative deal with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. There, he struggled tremendously and was released this offseason.
We'll see if Asomugha has enough to make the Niners roster this month.
