According to Bleacher Report, expect adidas and Nike to engage in a serious bidding war for Wiggins.
“From what I’m hearing, (adidas) is really high on him,” an industry source said. “I’ve heard a range for sure, from like $140 to $180 million for like 10 years. That’s a big deal for a kid coming out of school because most rookie deals are probably like four years.”
“I’m hearing from people at Kansas that he’s got a $180 million offer supposedly coming from adidas,” a source close to Wiggins’ inner circle said. “But I also heard that Nike is going to match anything.”
Wiggins wore Nike in high school, but adidas will have plenty of opportunity to schmooze Wiggins, since Kansas is an adidas school. Where do you think Wiggins should sign, or what brand he'll end up signing with?
The opportunities are endless, as Nike has paved the way for popular signature sneaker lines with many athletes, such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Michael Jordan. Adidas is no slouch themselves with Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose.
If Wiggins wants to take his own route and build a strong brand that would create something new, adidas could be the way to go. But seeing how so many star athletes have succeeded with Nike, it will be a very tough decision once he decided to turn pro.
