Matt Bonner is an interesting character, but best known for being the sharpshooting three-point specialist on the San Antonio Spurs. Bonner has been teased a lot for several things, whether it's his last name, his red hair, his whiteness and many other various things that make him one of the NBA's most unique players.
But it's always one thing that everyone mentions about Bonner ... his shoes. Bonner is probably the only player in the league that wears New Balance shoes. I didn't even know New Balance even made shoes for basketball.
Bonner discussed this with the good folks over at Nice Kicks, talking about how he got a sneaker deal with NB. He wore exclusive basketball shoes with NB, and he's been wearing the same pairs for years now. Now, he's down to his last two pairs of the shoe. Now no longer with New Balance, Bonner is asking for everyone's help to get a sneaker deal.
Here was the plea:
There was some cool stuff in the video, as Bonner discussed also wearing shoes like And1s, Nike Flightposites and Nike Shox earlier in his basketball career. Overall, he doesn't care if it's stylish or not ... just as long as the sneaker is comfy.
Following the video, Bonner took over the Nice Kicks Twitter account. Thanks to that, Bonner was able to strike a deal with New Balance to get more sneakers. He might have become the first person ever to sign a shoe deal over Twitter.
